2013 Stuart H. Nolan Scholarship Recipient

scholarshipSejla is the daughter of Greenfield maintenance lead technician Adnan (Ed) Sacic and his wife Alma. She is a 2012 graduate of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School and is currently completing her freshman year at the University of Minnesota, where she hopes to be accepted into the College of Pharmacy.

Sejla spent her high school years involved in a variety of extra-curricular and volunteer activities, including acting a Best Buddy to a disabled person, being a member of the Link Crew that helps freshman students on their first day of high school, and serving on the Student Activity Board that plans special events. At the U of M Sejla is involved with the Pre-Pharmacy Club, the Medical Reserve Corps, and the Student Advisory Board. She has also volunteered for Team McDaniel and the Ronald McDonald House.

Sejla’s family immigrated to the United States from Bosnia when she was four years old. They arrived with just a small amount of money and a big goal of achieving a better life. Ed & Alma worked very hard to achieve that goal for their family, and Sejla wishes to repay them by making the most of her educational and career opportunities.

Sejla was selected as this year’s Stuart H. Nolan Scholarship recipient from a field of five excellent applicants.  This outstanding young woman has received a check for $2,000 to help offset her educational expenses, including tuition, books, meals, transportation, and other fees.

We congratulate Sejla and all who submitted an application; we wish you all success as you pursue your dreams!

The View at Long Lake has Reached Full Occupancy!

view 108

The View at Long Lake has reached full occupancy!

The leasing team at The View has officially reached full occupancy on this 124 unit building. Pre-leasing began in the Spring of 2012, and the Certificate of Occupancy was granted for July 1, 2012 move-ins. The property has been incredibly well received in the Northwest metro with an ideal location on Long Lake in New Brighton. Our residents are settling into their new homes and have been quick to embrace the luxury lifestyle provided with on-site fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, and scheduled events to get acquainted with neighbors.

But don’t take our word for it, see below for recent feedback from a resident of The View!

I moved in and was welcomed to The View last winter with snow-covered landscaping and glowing holiday lights. I have really liked it. But YESTERDAY I truly fell in the LOVE with the unique and truly amazing location of this property! The first beautiful day of the spring season, shiny new bikes, and two energetic kids ready to RIDE. We exit the underground parking, we take 1 step out the door, and there we are on the smooth SAFE bike path that seems to go on forever through beautiful Long Lake Regional Park: past a fishing dock, a playground, a beach, a drinking fountain, a picnic pavilion  2 more playgrounds…. endless bliss- I have never seen my kids so happy, and I have never felt so lucky to have a traffic free, nature filled safe world to help my family explore Minnesota! Nice Job View!

Caretakers Collaborate

green logo

Company-wide, Caretakers from over 30 communities gathered this week at the corporate office to collaborate!

There were 30 Caretakers in attendance for training that focused on safety and efficiency. Those in attendance have over 100 years of Caretaking experience!

Topics discussed were the company-wide GreenTEAM goal to reduce waste by 10% in 2013, how to accurately record many of the various information logs that are required, and many procedural instructions and best practices.

Each person was asked why they enjoy working at StuartCo, the common themes were the love of the residents and property, convenient locations, and the appreciation of the flexibility in their schedules.  They also love the fact that StuartCo provides training, efficiency and safety information on an ongoing basis.

All enjoyed the collaborating and are looking forward to the next training opportunity!

StuartCo Volunteers at Feed My Starving Children

FMSC

Today, over 60 StuartCo employees will participate in a food packing event for Feed My Starving Children. We are thrilled to be able to give back as a company!

Feed My Starving Children provides life-saving meals to people who need them most all over the world — from countries affected by natural disaster to places enduring economic despair.  FMSC meals are distributed in nearly 70 countries through missionary partnerships at orphanages, schools, clinics, refugee camps and malnourishment centers.

FMSC believes in sustainability – they don’t simply send one shipment of food to a country. Instead, FMSC continues to provide the mission partners with the food they need to maintain their feeding programs.

An interesting fact, a single meal costs only 22 cents to produce, and 92 percent of total donations goes directly toward the food program.

If you’d like to find out more about FMSC and how to get involved, please visit their website here.

GreenTEAM Goals-First Quarter Update

go green

We’ve wrapped up our first quarter of the year, and Earth Day is quickly approaching on April 22nd. Here are a few ideas that our StuartCo teams are doing to help achieve the Green-TEAM goals.

First, a reminder of our team goals, we are making smart, energy-saving choices to preserve our planet.

Our goal is to reduce our waste by 10% in 2013. Here’s how we’re planning to achieve it:

1. We’ll minimize the amount of printed materials delivered to residents by utilizing sophisticated digital communication tools.

2. We will continue our efforts to reduce utility consumption by ensuring that our systems are always operating as efficiently as possible.

3. We will be asking our team members, residents, and business partners to join our efforts.

from southwest gables:

To better control lighting costs, we’ve added occupancy sensors in our trash rooms and to our gym/fitness center area. We added recycling receptacles. In one of our buildings we have replaced all the T12 garage lights with LED fixtures. We print our service requests out on special perforated paper so a copy isn’t needed. We will be implementing a phone book recycling program this spring.

from lamplighter village:

We use One Call Now to notify residents of upcoming items such as lot plowing, rent due dates, or water shut-off issues. This has cut down on the use of paper quite a bit and is faster & more efficient than having staff members deliver notices.

from genesee:

We are paperless in our resident correspondence – no notices to apartment doors. We use email, One Call Now, resident portal, and an online newsletter (email link sent to residents & posted on social media). When possible, we scan/email a copy of lease paperwork to residents rather than photocopying.

from woodridge:

On a management level we are recycling all paper and using e-files for documents that in the past were printed out. We are also emailing copies of leases (and renewals) to residents. We’re utilizing One Call Now to communicate to residents instead of delivering paper flyers. We’re working toward LED lightbulbs in common areas, and have added light sensors in common areas.

from coachman trails:

We have recycle bins in each office and are training ourselves to be better at using them. We recently received flyers and posters from Hennepin County regarding the county’s overall recycling program to distribute/display, and they also provided us with reusable bags to give to our residents. They are large, very easy to clean, and show photos of common household items that can be recycled.

accounting department:

From a financial standpoint, we closed on several loans over the past several months and saved all closing documents, third-party reports, etc. electronically rather than printing & filing.

We hope you enjoyed this update. And as always, please share about how you’re going GREEN in your home or work environment.

StuartCo Leaders Unite

Leading while Managing (2)

It’s no accident that StuartCo has been ranked a Top 100 Employer two years in a row. We achieve that status by investing in our team members.

This week, our leaders participated in a two-day workshop focusing on Leading While Managing.  Day one was facilitated by Matt Norman from Dale Carnegie, and provided exercises in developing personal leadership styles & leading strong teams. Day two was a spirited workshop on Leading from the Soul, facilitated by Robin Getman, CSP.

We recognize the incredibly important role our property managers and corporate leadership teams play in developing strong teams to service our residents. It’s why we’re known for our high employee retention rate, and our high resident renewal rate. This commitment allows us to be the residential property management company of choice for owners, vendors, residents and employees.
