StuartCo Announces Recent Promotions and New Hires to Leadership Team

We’re pleased to announce the recent promotion of Terry Steffen and Darren Jakel, as well as hiring Scott Fleming and Mark Kupfer to our leadership team.

Darren Jakel has been promoted to Vice President of Building Operations. Over the last 13 years, Darren Jakel has led our building operations and maintenance teams toward greater efficiency and smarter solutions. He has been instrumental in utility conservation efforts and has developed and led our safety committee and training programs, and enhanced our preferred vendor program while providing exceptional leadership to the company as a whole.

Terry Steffen has been promoted to Vice President and CFO. In his role as CFO, Terry was essential in the financing of multiple new construction starts, refinancing of numerous existing assets, and deployment of efficient accounting and finance tactics that have provided additional levels of expertise to StuartCo’s development, operations, and management capabilities. He has proven to be an effective leader, thoughtful communicator, and overall asset to our organization.

Welcome Scott Fleming as Portfolio Director. Scott will oversee the financial success, building integrity, employee development and resident relations of 10 assets, both owned and fee managed, totaling nearly 1,000 units across the Twin Cities Metro market and Southwestern Wisconsin area. Scott’s portfolio includes multifamily residential, commercial, retail, and student housing, along with StuartCo’s newest construction development, One Southdale Place, opening in the summer of 2014 in Edina, MN.

Scott brings over 11 years of property management industry experience. He began his career in 2002 with AvalonBay Communities, Inc. In 2005, he joined Lincoln Property Company as an Assistant Manager, progressing his way to Business Manager, Regional Property Manager, and most recently Assistant Vice President – Midwest Region. Scott spent the past year in Chicago, IL but was based in the Twin Cities from 2008 to 2012.

Welcome Mark Kupfer as IT Manager. Mark will oversee the technology for the assets used by our employees across the portfolio, including server technology, network administration, communication tools, software integration, hardware, and help desk services.

Mark brings over 13 years of experience in Information Technology, including managing the entire scope of IT from daily operations to managing staff, help desk, servers and infrastructure, vendor management, inter-departmental communication, and directing the organization down the optimal technological paths. In his most recent position, Mark served as IT Director for DerivActiv, a group of companies that provides portfolio management and financial instrument valuation services to universities, nonprofits, municipalities, healthcare organizations and housing agencies, as well as corporations around the world.
