“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.”
– Hal Borland
As we close 2016, we reflect on another successful year. Together, we have worked hard to make our communities better, and to positively contribute to, and impact the lives of, our neighbors.
Adomie Resident Survey
In 2016, we partnered with Adomie, an independent company, to survey StuartCo residents and receive feedback on our properties, staff, homes, amenities, and more. We were pleased at the high participation level across our properties, and thrilled that many of our properties earned awards in all categories from property staff to services to in-unit features. We have been utilizing that feedback to continually improve our communities going into 2017 and beyond!
Utility Improvements
This year, StuartCo invested in multiple improvements in order to save on utility costs.
Every boiler in the company was tuned up to maintain efficiency and insure dependability. We were ready when the temps dropped below 0 early in the season.
We cleaned and serviced 2,000 air-conditioning units and 100 commercial water heaters to help with performance and efficiency.
StuartCo invested nearly $260,000 to transition a total of 29 communities to LED lighting, minimizing our carbon footprint by utilizing an eco-friendly energy efficient product across our communities.
We are proud of our maintenance teams who work hard to ensure utilities are running efficiently, helping to save on rental costs for our residents!
Steps to Wellness
In 2016, StuartCo implemented the Steps to Wellness program by making Fitbit devices available to all employees. Through physical wellness, StuartCo strives to promote physical activity, nutrition, and mental well-being. Fitbit, healthy food choices, and the ability to have a work-life balance all contribute to this success.
Throughout 2016, StuartCo employees enrolled in the program took over 213 MILLION steps!
Each month, employees were invited to join a different “virtual journey” or participate in a head to head step challenge.
We hope that our employees enjoyed our many journeys in 2016! Stay tuned for 2017, as we take our challenges to a whole new level!
StuartCo Charitable Efforts
StuartCo is committed to willingly donating our resources and talents to benefit our communities, and 2016 was filled with the generosity of our residents and employees. Together, we volunteered with Feed My Starving Children in the spring. We collected backpacks and school supplies for children in late summer. We volunteered with Simpson Housing for repairs around their office and shelter in the fall. And we donated hundreds of toys for Toys for Tots in December. We continue to be grateful for and inspired by YOU as you come together to make our communities better.
Senior Living
Our senior living communities in St. Paul have always been a very active presence in the StuartCo family, and 2016 was no different!
The Wellington has continued its KnitWits program—for the past five years, residents have been busy knitting blankets for The Children’s Hospital, and this year, they surpassed 100 blankets!
In September, The Alton Memory Care sponsored a team and collected donations for The Walk To End Alzheimer’s in Minneapolis.
NEW: Interior Designer Added to our Corporate Operations Department
In September 2016, we welcomed Gerry Ewald to a new role created in response to the high volume of design projects in constant motion at StuartCo. As our Lead Designer, Gerry keeps a consistent watch over our apartment upgrades, amenity space renovations, and general design projects. He identifies materials that are both fresh and functional, negotiates volume discounts, and eliminates the need for costly outsourcing– allowing StuartCo to prioritize more projects going into 2017.
Gerry has worked at architectural/design firms, in the facilities departments of two major corporations, and at a furniture dealership. Corporate offices, residential, financial institutions, law offices and restaurants are some of the many project types included in his project portfolio. Gerry possesses expertise in the areas of space planning, design, furniture selection and client management. Gerry brings a singular, yet pragmatic approach to Interior Design.
We live and see the corporate commitment to your facilities and residents. Thanh you!
