The StuartCo Career Path

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”  – Confucius

At StuartCo, we pride ourselves on being a Top WorkPlace (as published in the Star Tribune). We work hard to ensure that there are many reasons our employees stay with us and continue to grow in their career.

One of the great benefits of working at StuartCo is our approach to grow and develop our employees. When a position opens up, we look first to our current employees to see who is ready and excited for a new challenge.

Teresa Weiss, Director of Human Resources, offers some great tips for employees developing their career path at StuartCo:

  • Ask for or find a mentor
  • Show great performance
  • Sell yourself!
  • Always be acquiring more knowledge/skills
  • Ask for more responsibility
  • Be professional
  • Be a team player

Not only does Teresa have some great insight for us, but current employees do as well! We reached out to some of our long-term team members for their advice on advancing your career.

Virginia Stejskal, Property Manager, Eagle Creek Townhomes

“Six years ago, I started as a part-time event planner, added weekend leasing, then caretaking, was promoted to Assistant Manager and finally found myself as the Property Manager.

Be willing to help out in every possible area—there’s no such thing as ‘not my job’. Learn from each person you work with—even if that involves learning what not to do!

I’ve just finished my sixth year with StuartCo and I still haven’t found the right words to express my love and appreciation for this company! The people are amazing, I feel appreciated, I’ve been able to grow, and I know I’m working for a company that keeps its employees and residents in mind while running a thriving business.”

Jacqueline-LasterJacqueline Mackey, Property Manager, 430 Oak Grove

“Just three short years ago, I was the weekend leasing consultant at Lamplighter Village, and now I am the Property Manager at the famously beautiful and historic 430 Oak Grove.

Being successful in any position is easy. Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, and most importantly, smile. I measure success through happiness. Every day, I come in and give it 100%.

Set realistic goals for yourself. Write them down and post them where you can see them every day. Let other people know what your goals are—those people are your cheerleaders. Run your own race—that is the most important.

StuartCo promotes a balanced family and work life. With the winter arrival of my first child, that value is very important, and it’s what drives employees to do their best.”

Jeff-Kane,-RVUL-LINKJeff Kane, Lead Maintenance, Riverview at Upper Landing

“I’ve been with StuartCo a little over 13 years. I’ve stayed because of the opportunity for advancement, and I’ve always been impressed by how approachable and caring the management teams are—they all take the time to get to know everyone on their team.

One thing everyone can do is get involved and take ownership—by jumping in, you show your commitment to the team and stand out as someone who is willing to go the extra mile. Be that person on your team who takes the extra step.

We have a great group of people who work at StuartCo with a wealth of knowledge—ask many questions, and don’t be afraid to share what you’ve learned with others.”
